About Face has 40 years of experience in electrolysis and has worked successfully with many transgender clients from all of Scotland’s Health Boards in that time. We were at the forefront of treating trans clients 35 years ago and have advised and proposed detailed treatment programmes for the NHS in their Gender Reassignment policy planning for facial, genital or other donor site permanent hair removal. All our electrolysists are required to undertake post-graduate examinations to become registered with the British Institute & Association of Electrolysis (M.B.I.A.E., C.R.P.E.).
About Face is the only electrolysis clinic in the UK to implement this rigorous standard.
Our free consultations discuss in depth all aspects of the treatment: health and medical details; treatment techniques; treatment planning; contraindications; progression and aftercare instructions. You will not be rushed and you will be encouraged to ask as many questions as you wish regarding this service.
It is generally understood that the strong terminal growth on the beard area requires lengthy treatment, and you should not expect to achieve total clearance with no regrowth at all in less than 2 years. Achieving it in this time is dependent upon how much treatment you are able to have. However, your NHS hormone treatment will help this process along more quickly. During this time, hair growth gradually lessens, appointments become less frequent and session lengths reduce, as does your day-to-day management of the area.
Getting body and facial hair under control is critically important for trans people and here at About Face we pride ourselves in our caring approach to your individual situation.
